Also commonly known as Finasteride, Proscar is a drug that is largely employed in the treatment of such conditions as benign prostatic hyperplasia and hair loss. It acts by preventing the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the human male body. The conversion of testosterone to DHT is the primary cause of baldness and enlarged prostate development.

Proscar should never be taken by a woman or a child. Finasteride can be absorbed through the skin, and women or children should not be permitted to handle Proscar tablets.
